Cancer Research Bioinformatics Specialist

The University of Saskatchewan is seeking a highly skilled Cancer Research Bioinformatics Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Cancer Research Unit, you will provide bioinformatics expertise and support to health science researchers, particularly in the area of Cancer Research.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process and analyze large-scale sequencing data, including genomics and transcriptomics data, to identify patterns and insights relevant to cancer research.
  • Integrate data from major public sources, such as cBioportal, TCGA, and GTEx, to inform subsequent analyses and provide valuable insights to researchers.
  • Develop and implement bioinformatic tools and pipelines to support specific project analyses, ensuring efficient and accurate results.
  • Collaborate with researchers to communicate results effectively and provide actionable insights to inform their work.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest bioinformatics tools and technologies, applying this knowledge to improve our research capabilities.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, genomics, or a related field, with a minimum of 2 years of experience.
  • Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, Bash, and R, with experience in working with high-performance computing environments.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with researchers and other team members.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's or PhD degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, genomics, or a related field.
  • Experience with specific bioinformatics tools and resources, such as Ingenuity Pathway Analysis, Connectivity Map, and KEGG Database.
