About the Role

As a Manager, Intermediate and High-Level Waste, you will play a pivotal role in developing and executing the technical roadmap for long-term management of nuclear waste. You'll lead a team of experts, collaborating with diverse stakeholders to ensure safe and responsible handling of this critical material.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cultivate a strong safety culture within your team, ensuring all activities adhere to the highest health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to define strategic initiatives that drive the technical direction for intermediate and high-level waste management.
  • Lead a technical group responsible for developing a comprehensive program encompassing all phases of waste management, from pre-siting to decommissioning.
  • Manage external studies and contracts, overseeing every stage from initiation to completion, ensuring high-quality deliverables.
  • Foster strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including universities, regulatory bodies, industry experts, and waste owners.
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the waste inventory and characterization, informing the NWMO's reference inventory and Waste Acceptance Criteria.
  • Engage with communities to gather input and integrate Indigenous Knowledge into the waste management program.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to your team, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.
  • Support business planning efforts, including life-cycle cost estimates and funding strategies.
  • Develop and execute short- and long-term business plans aligned with organizational objectives.

Qualifications

  • A 4-year university engineering or science degree (MSc or MEng preferred).
  • Over 12 years of relevant leadership or subject matter experience in the nuclear field, with a focus on radiological waste management.
  • Demonstrated experience managing, motivating, and leading teams.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders at all levels of an organization.
  • Strong project management skills and a comprehensive understanding of both technical and social aspects of nuclear waste management programs in Canada.
