The Project Site Supervisor plays a crucial role in safeguarding and enhancing Teck's reputation and financial interests through effective management of Legacy Properties. This position offers the chance to develop and execute a comprehensive closure strategy for various sites, yielding significant environmental and community benefits while strengthening government relations.

The Project Site Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that annual work plans and closure enhancement strategies are developed and executed with a strong emphasis on safety, environmental protection, and cost management. This includes timely completion of all necessary technical and legal documentation, as well as adherence to regulatory and corporate standards.

In this role, you will support the development of regulatory strategies for various sites, ensuring that Teck's obligations are accurately defined. You will lead and mentor a diverse team of project personnel, consultants, and contractors, while effectively engaging with Indigenous communities and other stakeholders to address local concerns and collaboratively develop work plans.

Key Responsibilities
  • Champion safety leadership by implementing and promoting safety and environmental protocols.
  • Ensure all personnel, including contractors, return home safely each day.
  • Oversee the timely completion of health and safety preparations, documentation, and training for field activities.
  • Provide strategic direction for site investigations, technical studies, and closure planning.
  • Collaborate closely with senior advisors to ensure the safe execution of technical studies that inform closure options.
  • Build and lead effective site teams, providing clear guidance and feedback.
  • Engage with subject matter experts across Teck to leverage internal expertise.
  • Make informed decisions to mitigate risks and costs, maintaining proactive communication with leadership.
  • Prepare comprehensive budgets and long-term closure cost estimates, ensuring proper management of expenditures.
  • Lead the preparation and evaluation of contracts, ensuring thorough oversight of contractor performance.
  • Foster strong relationships with Indigenous communities and stakeholders, ensuring commitments to capacity building and business opportunities are met.
  • Support regulatory engagement and the development of agreements with regulatory bodies.
  • Conduct timely internal and external reporting.
Qualifications
  • At least 15 years of experience in project or site management within relevant fields.
  • Degree in Engineering or Science related to Environmental, Mining, Civil, or Mechanical disciplines.
  • Professional accreditation is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of British Columbia's environmental legislation and permitting processes.
  • BC Mines Supervisor Certification is required; additional certifications are a plus.
  • Proven leadership skills with experience managing diverse teams.
  • Highly organized with the ability to prioritize effectively in complex environments.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
