About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Life Insurance Underwriter to join our team at Sun Life Financial. As an Intermediate Underwriter, you will play a critical role in evaluating the eligibility of applicants for Life and Critical Illness Insurance products.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Analyze medical, personal, and financial information to assess risk and make informed decisions.
  2. Classify risk and gather additional information as required to ensure accurate underwriting.
  3. Liaise with business leaders and advisors to deliver exceptional service and expertise.
  4. Contribute to a positive and collaborative work environment through teamwork and a spirit of innovation and continuous improvement.
  5. Stay up-to-date with medical knowledge and underwriting approaches to ensure the highest level of expertise.
Requirements
  1. Minimum 3 years of experience as an Individual Life Underwriter.
  2. Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  3. Strong analytical, judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  4. Knowledge of medicine and risk factors.
  5. Service-oriented attitude with excellent interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with internal and external partners.
  6. Proven ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure, prioritizing multiple tasks.
  7. Specialized training: ALU certificate and commitment to ongoing education with a goal of attaining the Fellow, Academy of Life Underwriting (FALU) and Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI) designations.
  8. Bilingualism (French and English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec-based interactions with English and French-speaking colleagues or internal partners across Canada or worldwide.
