Job Overview
As the energy sector undergoes significant transformation, the Electrical Engineer will be instrumental in advancing clean energy initiatives, particularly in hydroelectric power generation. The Protection and Control (P&C) team seeks skilled professionals to contribute to engineering tasks across various multidisciplinary projects, including the modernization of turbine-generator assemblies, electrical and mechanical support systems, and automation processes within Hydro-Québec facilities. This role offers a collaborative environment where you can enhance your expertise by working alongside seasoned professionals and access opportunities for both internal and external training.
We provide a flexible hybrid work arrangement, allowing you to operate from home or one of our regional offices.
Key Responsibilities- Design and prepare engineering solutions for Control and Protection systems, including:
- Control, measurement, monitoring, and protection systems for turbine-generator units;
- Instrumentation for generator sets, encompassing both analog and digital systems;
- Integrated control networks for power plants;
- Interface development for speed controllers, pump units, and static excitation systems;
- Remote management of discharge valves and water intake systems;
- Control systems for mechanical auxiliary services (air, water, oil).
- Develop electrical schematics for control and protection, including single-line and three-line AC diagrams, protection and control layouts, wiring diagrams, device connection drawings, assembly instructions, material lists, and cable schedules.
- Design DC power systems, including single-line diagrams, battery capacity assessments, and connection schematics for chargers, batteries, and inverters.
- Draft specifications for equipment manufacturing and on-site installation.
- Collaborate with engineers and technicians on technical tasks.
- Engage in project coordination meetings and design evaluations.
- Coordinate efforts with other engineering disciplines involved in projects, such as electrical, structural, civil, auxiliary mechanical, heavy mechanical, building, and architectural engineering.
- Participate in site assessments.
- Potentially provide on-site support and commissioning services.
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
- Registered member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ).
- Over seven (7) years of relevant professional experience.
- Expertise in electrical distribution, control, and protection systems.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Fluent in both spoken and written French.
- Proficient in written and spoken English in a professional context for national project communications.
- Self-motivated, resourceful, and focused on project outcomes.
