Formulator, Product Development Specialist

Job Purpose

The primary objective of this position is to design and develop new products in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) guidelines. The successful candidate will work closely with the R&D team to ensure timely completion of projects and meet departmental and corporate goals.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop and formulate new products, including literature research, sourcing raw materials and packaging components, and designing experiments to support the final formulation and process.
  • Write Master Formula and Packaging Work Orders for Exhibit Batches and facilitate manufacturing and packaging of exhibit batches.
  • Document all research work, including protocols, experimental processes, problems, and observations, and formulate development reports.
  • Participate in technical transfer, process validation, and commercial production troubleshooting under the guidance of a Senior Associate/Manager.
  • Plan and execute project development activities proactively and update outcomes and completion of activities in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a clean laboratory environment and ensure adherence to safety regulations.
  • Complete GMP training for updated SOPs and complete all GMP activities and documentation correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of liquid and semi-solid formulation development.
  • Hands-on experience and skills in designing, implementing, and evaluating experiments.
  • Good understanding of GMP and GLP guidelines.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word processing and spreadsheet programs.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-based environment.
  • Good organizational skills and multi-tasking skills to facilitate timely completion of projects.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ph.D. or M.Sc. degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences with minimum one-year experience in formulation development, or B.Sc. or community college degree with 3 years experience in Semi-Solid and Liquid formulation development.
  • Ability to utilize and apply basic scientific knowledge and semi-solid theories to design effective experiments.
  • Evaluate and assess formulations and processes based on analytical results.
  • Collaborate with manager team and other R&D professionals, plant staffs, and administration staffs effectively to solve any issues or conflicts during product development.
Working Conditions

The working environment is generally pleasant, with occasional exposure to dirty environments and higher than normal noise levels. Frequent daily exposure to various chemicals in raw materials, components, and finished products may occur. There may be occasional exposure to unpleasant odors resulting from raw materials or finished products. Temperature levels are fairly consistent, and the position requires a mixture of standing and walking, some light lifting, and/or movement of material/instruments.
