Hospitalist Medicine Service Physician

The Nova Scotia Health Authority is seeking a skilled Hospitalist Medicine Service Physician to join our team at the QEII Health Sciences Center in Halifax. As a hospitalist, you will be responsible for providing direct inpatient care to patients admitted to our service, ensuring the highest quality of care and maintaining competence in your practice.
Responsibilities- Provide a full range of clinical care services to inpatients, adhering to the Canadian Society of Hospital Medicine's Core Competencies in Hospital Medicine.
- Act as the Most Responsible Physician (MRP) for admitted patients, ensuring timely review of laboratory, imaging, and consultation reports.
- Participate in equitable after-hours call coverage and daily flow discussions to ensure seamless patient care.
- Embody the Home First Philosophy of Nova Scotia Health in efficient discharge planning, focusing on expected length of stay and patient/caregiver needs.
- Contribute to quality improvement, operational, and research initiatives within the Hospitalist Medicine Service.
- Attend site-based physician meetings and demonstrate a commitment to delivering exceptional care and maintaining competence.
- Develop an interest in teaching, as the Hospitalist Medicine Service is an established core teaching service with Dalhousie Family Medicine.
- Full-time (2 weeks per month) or part-time (variable) schedule, with flexibility to accommodate individual needs.
- Equitable participation in weekend call (minimum 1:4 for full-time) and night call (minimum 1-2 nights per week covered).
- Eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS) and certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) for specialists.
- Membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) and active admitting privileges at the QEII site via the Nova Scotia Health Credentialing Committee.
- Up-to-date Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification and membership in the Society of Hospital Medicine, Canadian Chapter (optional).
- Academic teaching appointment with Dalhousie University (optional).
