About the Position:

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Animal Care Attendant to join our team at the Cowichan Animal Centre in Duncan, BC. As a key member of our animal care team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the health and well-being of the animals in our care.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain the physical plant in a clean, sanitary, and efficient manner, ensuring the health and safety of both animals and staff.
  • Ensure kennels, runs, and cat cages are kept in a manner that promotes the animal's health and welfare, adhering to ShelterSense protocols.
  • Monitor the health and welfare of animals through accurate record-keeping, daily logs, and welfare sheets.
  • Provide daily care, including feeding, watering, exercise, and enrichment, to maintain optimal animal health.
  • Perform general bathing and grooming of animals, treating them with compassion and respect.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to maintain a positive and supportive team environment.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Class N or 5 BC Drivers' License and driver's abstract.
  • Excellent customer service skills, with a strong desire to provide patient, professional, and positive interactions.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Resourceful team player with a strong ability to build trusting relationships with colleagues, customers, and volunteers.
  • Highly motivated self-starter with minimal supervision, able to take initiative and adapt to changing priorities.
  • A sound knowledge of animals, their breeds, characteristics, and common diseases.
  • Previous kennel or animal care experience is an asset.
  • Demonstrable interest in all aspects of animal welfare.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of fitness and endurance to fulfill the required duties.
  • Computer experience with Windows, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
