Job Title: Sample Preparation Technician
Reports to: Sample Prep Supervisor
Basic Purpose:
Under the supervision of the Sample Preparation Manager and with guidance from the Sample Prep Supervisor and/or Shift Lead Hand, the Sample Preparation Technician is responsible for the preparation of client samples for analytical testing.
Key Responsibilities:
The primary duties include, but are not limited to:
- Preparing geological samples through crushing, pulverizing, or sieving in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures, only deviating when authorized by management.
- Ensuring efficient and precise processing of incoming samples in the designated priority order.
- Documenting quality control checks and equipment usage, and transferring completed samples to the next processing station as required.
- Conducting and recording quality assessments during sample preparation, adhering to SOPs, and halting operations when necessary in consultation with the Supervisor.
- Operating and maintaining equipment, notifying the Lead-Hand or Supervisor when maintenance is needed.
- Complying with occupational health and safety regulations, company policies, and applicable ISO standards.
- Acting professionally and safely, wearing the necessary personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Providing constructive feedback to the Lead-Hand or Supervisor regarding potential improvements in the work area.
- Performing other assigned tasks as necessary.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Completion of a high school diploma.
- Experience with heavy equipment is advantageous.
- Proficient in English, both verbal and written.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Able to perform physically demanding tasks and repetitive lifting.
- Capable of handling weights up to 40 lbs during shifts.
- Able to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
Working Conditions:
- Fast-paced laboratory environment with a high level of productivity.
- Repetitive tasks may be required.
- Patience, tenacity, and persistence are essential.
- Flexible hours, including potential overtime and shift work.
- May involve prolonged periods of standing.
- Some lifting and carrying (up to 10 kg) may be necessary.
- Handling of hazardous materials in accordance with established safety protocols.
