Job Summary:

Mon Sheong Foundation is seeking a skilled Activity Aide to enhance the quality of life for our residents. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for delivering and evaluating age-appropriate recreational and educational programs that cater to the unique needs and interests of our residents.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Support the Resident Advocacy Program by promoting and respecting the Resident's Bill of Rights;
  • Utilize horticulture to promote socialization, movement, relaxation, and creative expression;
  • Assist residents in participating in the horticulture program and integrate it into their daily lives;
  • Encourage family members to participate with residents whenever possible;
  • Facilitate contact with residents' former community/faith groups;
  • Provide grief and bereavement support to residents and their families by arranging spiritual counseling and one-on-one visitation according to residents' wishes;
  • Invite and encourage cultural musical groups from the community to participate in the Home;
  • Plan and arrange snoezelen programs for residents who need stimulation activities in a culturally specific environment;
  • Motivate residents to actively participate in activity programs offered;
  • Review the progress of residents with other staff or family members on a regular basis;
  • Assist therapists in providing care in assigned areas;
  • Provide exercises to strengthen muscles and develop endurance to prepare residents for ambulation with or without assistive devices;
  • Assist residents in using restorative aids for ambulation, including canes, walkers, or crutches;
  • Guide and support residents in using ambulatory aides used on the bed to safely move or change positions.

Requirements:

  • Post-Secondary diploma or degree or certificate in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology, gerontology, or other related field from an Ontario post-secondary institution;
  • Certification in Standard First Aid and CPR (HCP) level;
  • Experience working with seniors and providing programs;
  • Understanding of Alzheimer's Disease;
  • Bilingual in Chinese (Cantonese or Mandarin) preferred;
  • Ability to work independently;
  • Capable of working as a team player;
  • Able to work evenings and weekends;
  • Able to participate in off-site activities and various religious activities.
