Job Description:

Parsons, a leading provider of multi-disciplinary services, is seeking a full-time Land Use Planner to join our dynamic team in Ottawa. We offer a collaborative and flexible work environment, providing services to a wide range of public and private sector clients across eastern Canada.

As a Land Use Planner, you will be involved in a variety of assignments, including:

  • Preparing and submitting development applications
  • Due diligence/site evaluations
  • Zoning by-law and official plan reviews
  • Best practices research
  • Coordinating consultation programs

You will also contribute to environmental assessment projects and design assignments for complete streets, transit corridors, active transportation facilities, and public realm designs for civic investments. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting in the completion of land use studies and master plans
  • Developing policy analyses, planning rationales, and feasibility studies
  • Coordinating planning applications, including Official Plan and Zoning By-law Amendments
  • Preparing and presenting materials to clients and public meetings
  • Preparing environmental assessment studies, including analysis of existing conditions and evaluation of alternatives
  • Coordinating with municipal staff and approval agencies
  • Negotiating agreements and conditions
  • Preparing illustrative graphics and presentations
  • Developing stakeholder engagement strategies

Parsons is seeking applicants with:

  • An undergraduate degree in Planning or a related program
  • A minimum of 2 years of related experience, preferably in a consulting or private sector environment
  • A positive attitude and strong team environment skills
  • A working knowledge of land development processes and municipal planning in Ontario
  • An interest in urban mobility, urban design, and place-making
  • Strong initiative, independence, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and visual design software
  • Excellent English written and oral communication skills
  • A valid driver's license
  • Membership in the Ontario Professional Planners Institute or the ability to gain candidate status
