Woodland Cultural Specialist

The Woodland Wellness Centre at Lac La Ronge Indian Band is seeking a dedicated and experienced individual to join our team as a Cultural & Ceremonial Worker.
In this vital role, you will play a key part in preserving and sharing the rich traditions of the Woodland Cree people. You will work closely with Elders and Cultural Advisors to ensure the continuity of ceremonies and practices, supporting the well-being of our community members.
Your Responsibilities:- Assist in conducting and preparing for spiritual ceremonies, upholding the sacred traditions of our culture.
- Provide guidance and support to participants, sharing traditional knowledge, skills, and experiences within the Woodland Wellness Centre.
- Collaborate with treatment staff to deliver holistic healthcare services, incorporating traditional perspectives into modern practices.
- Contribute to the planning and organization of cultural events, such as camps, trips, and gatherings, fostering a sense of community and connection to the land.
- Maintain cultural equipment and supplies, ensuring their proper care and preservation for future generations.
- Provide practical assistance to Elders and Cultural Advisors, including transportation, gathering resources, and supporting daily needs.
- Work closely with the Treatment Team, providing support, awareness, and interpretation to enhance the healing journey of our clients.
- Act as a bridge between English and Cree speakers, facilitating communication and understanding within the centre.
- Engage families and community members in traditional life skills, promoting cultural continuity and resilience.
- Minimum Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent educational attainment.
- One to two years of relevant experience in cultural and traditional practices.
- Extensive knowledge of and experience with Woodland Cree Culture and Traditions is essential.
- Commitment to a respectful lifestyle, demonstrating integrity and upholding the values of our community.
- Possession of a valid Class 5 Driver's License and reliable vehicle.
- Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Sector Check and SGI Driver Abstract.
