The Lac La Ronge Indian Band's Woodland Wellness Centre is seeking a skilled Cultural & Ceremonial Worker to join our team.
Job Summary:We are looking for a dedicated individual to assist our Elder/Cultural Advisors in conducting and preparing for spiritual ceremonies. The successful candidate will support traditional knowledge, experience, and skills to participants of the Woodland Wellness Centre.
Key Responsibilities:- Assist in the planning and organization of cultural events, such as cultural camps, canoe trips, hunting, fishing, gathering, and harvesting community gardens.
- Maintain cultural equipment and supplies.
- Provide transportation, chopping wood, shovelling snow, hunting, and gathering for the Elder/Cultural Advisors.
- Work closely with the Treatment Team to provide support, awareness, and reinforcement of teaching, interpreting, and advising.
- Act as an interpreter between English and Cree speaking clients, health care providers, and accompany clients to appointments when necessary.
- Engage Treatment centre families and community members in basic life skills from a traditional perspective.
- Minimum Grade 12 Diploma or Equivalent.
- 1-2 years' relevant experience in Cultural and Traditional Practices.
- Extensive knowledge of and experience with Woodland Cree Culture and Traditions.
- Maintain exemplary lifestyle, i.e. be free from drugs and alcohol, no swearing, etc.
- Ability to speak/understand the Cree Language is a strong asset.
- Valid WHMIS and First Aid/CPR Certification.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License and own a reliable vehicle.
- Provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Sector Check, and SGI Driver Abstract.
- Possession and Acquisition License (PAL), Hunter's Safety Certificate, and Boating License.
- Saskatchewan Safe Food Handling Certificate.
