GeoVerra is seeking a highly skilled Survey Crew Chief to join our dynamic Geomatics team in Mississauga, ON. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing and performing field survey work, liaising with project managers, and establishing geodetic project control networks.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage and perform field survey work with the support of survey assistants.
  • Liaise with project managers to coordinate and complete field survey work in accordance with project budgets, schedules, priorities, and survey methodology.
  • Establish geodetic project control networks to the highest industry standards and in accordance with municipal, provincial, and federal standards when applicable.
  • Perform precision monitoring of structures, including buildings, roads, bridges, and railways, to ensure stability and detect any changes or movement.
  • Conduct surveys of infrastructure to determine position, alignment, and other necessary information for construction and/or maintenance related to transportation projects.
  • Liaise with client field representatives and landowners and be a brand ambassador for GeoVerra.
  • Prepare neat field notes, sketches, checklists, and digital data in required formats for different audiences.
  • Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to survey assistants.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of industry best practices, efficient field processes, and procedures, and the innovative use of new technology.
  • Proactively participate in and support the GeoVerra safety program.
  • Complete office technical survey tasks as required and other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Diploma/degree in a post-secondary program related to surveying and geomatics or an equivalent experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of survey equipment and software, including total stations, digital levels, and static, rapid-static, and real-time network GNSS.
  • Experience using 0.5"/1" robotic total stations with sets of angles methodology is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of precision monitoring techniques, including monitoring systems, instrumentation, monitoring-specific targets, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Demonstrated experience in railway surveying, including track alignment, topographic surveys, and construction layout.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in land surveying, with a focus on precision monitoring and railway surveys.
  • Experience with Trimble equipment and software, laser scanning, and line locating is considered an asset.
  • Strong problem-solving skills in a field environment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the capacity to produce accurate and legible field notes.
  • The ability to develop and motivate survey staff and work well in a team environment.
  • An aptitude for delivering projects on time and budget.
  • A valid driver's license and the ability to provide a clean driver's abstract.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug and alcohol screening as per the limits provided in the Canadian Model for Providing a Safe Workplace.
Job Conditions:
  • Ability to carry, lift, and push 50lbs on a regular basis.
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
  • Possible shift work and the ability to travel out of town may be required.
