Job Title: Survey Crew Chief

Are you passionate about working outdoors and leading a team of surveyors? We're seeking an experienced Survey Crew Chief to join our dynamic Geomatics team in Mississauga, ON.

Job Summary:

We're looking for a highly skilled and motivated individual to manage and perform field survey work, liaise with project managers, and establish geodetic project control networks. As a Survey Crew Chief, you will be responsible for leading a team of survey assistants, conducting precision monitoring of structures, and performing surveys of infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Manage and perform field survey work with the support of survey assistants.
  2. Liaise with project managers to coordinate and complete field survey work in accordance with project budgets, schedules, priorities, and survey methodology.
  3. Establish geodetic project control networks to the highest industry standards and in accordance with municipal, provincial, and federal standards when applicable.
  4. Perform precision monitoring of structures, including buildings, roads, bridges, and railways, to ensure stability and detect any changes or movement.
  5. Conduct surveys of infrastructure to determine position, alignment, and other necessary information for construction and/or maintenance related to transportation projects.
  6. Liaise with client field representatives and landowners and be a brand ambassador for GeoVerra.
  7. Prepare neat field notes, sketches, checklists, and digital data in required formats for different audiences.
  8. Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to survey assistants.
  9. Contribute to the development and implementation of industry best practices, efficient field processes, and procedures, and the innovative use of new technology.
  10. Complete office technical survey tasks as required and other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  1. Diploma/degree in a post-secondary program related to surveying and geomatics or an equivalent experience.
  2. Strong working knowledge of survey equipment and software, including total stations, digital levels, and static, rapid-static, and real-time network GNSS.
  3. Strong knowledge of precision monitoring techniques, including monitoring systems, instrumentation, monitoring-specific targets, data analysis, and reporting.
  4. Demonstrated experience in railway surveying, including track alignment, topographic surveys, and construction layout.
  5. Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in land surveying, with a focus on precision monitoring and railway surveys.
  6. Experience with Trimble equipment and software, laser scanning, and line locating considered an asset.
  7. Strong problem-solving skills in a field environment.
  8. Effective verbal and written communication skills with the capacity to produce accurate and legible field notes.
  9. The ability to develop and motivate survey staff and work well in a team environment.
  10. An aptitude for delivering projects on time and budget.
  11. A valid driver's license and the ability to provide a clean driver's abstract.
  12. Possible shift work and the ability to travel out of town may be required.
