Job Title: Vegetable Farm Worker

North Canal Produce Inc. is seeking a skilled Vegetable Farm Worker to join our team. As a key member of our farm crew, you will be responsible for ensuring the successful growth and harvesting of our crops.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Apply the technique of hoeing between rows to maintain crop health and prevent weeds from competing with our crops.
  • Divide fresh harvested produce into marketable lots and non-marketable lots to ensure optimal quality and efficiency.
  • Plant, cultivate, and irrigate crops to promote healthy growth and maximize yields.
  • Weeding and cleaning work areas to maintain a safe and productive environment.
  • Harvest crops at the optimal time to ensure peak quality and flavor.
  • Load, unload, and transfer crates, supplies, and farm produce, livestock, and poultry to and from the farm.
  • Clean stables, barns, barnyards, and pens to maintain a clean and healthy environment for our animals.
  • Perform general farm duties as required to ensure the smooth operation of the farm.
  • Maintain farm machinery, equipment, and buildings to ensure they are in good working order.
  • Clean and maintain work spaces to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all employees.
  • Ensure farm safety and bio-security procedures are followed at all times to protect our employees, animals, and crops.
Requirements:
  • Experience in vegetable farming or a related field is an asset.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with repetitive tasks and work under pressure.
  • Physical stamina to handle heavy loads and work in a physically demanding environment.
  • Manual dexterity to perform tasks that require precision and attention to detail.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and walk long distances.
  • Ability to bend, crouch, and kneel to perform tasks that require flexibility and mobility.
  • Weight handling: up to 23 kg (50 lbs).
Working Conditions:
  • Work in a rural area with outdoor and wet/damp conditions.
  • Work in a hot and noisy environment with dusty conditions.
  • Work in a cold/refrigerated environment.
Language:
  • English is the primary language spoken on the farm.
Hours of Work:
  • 40 to 60 hours per week.
