About This RoleNova Scotia Health and IWK Health are seeking both full-time and part-time family medicine physicians to become integral members of a collaborative healthcare team. The successful candidates will engage in comprehensive primary care, working alongside fellow physicians and various healthcare providers.
In addition to outpatient care, there is an opportunity to participate in inpatient services at Yarmouth Regional Hospital (YRH). Candidates may also have the chance to contribute to the education of residents through the Dalhousie University Family Medicine residency program and mentor medical students.
Moreover, there are possibilities for providing care in nursing homes, taking on shifts in the emergency department, or participating in maternity care and low-risk deliveries, allowing for a personalized practice approach.

- Maintain accountability for workload and practice standards.
- Facilitate continuity of care with healthcare providers within the practice and community.
- Coordinate community-based care alongside secondary and tertiary healthcare services.
- Build practice capacity within the initial two years.
- Adhere to the Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of Nova Scotia Health Authority.
- Ensure timely access for the practice population, aiming for same-day or next-day appointments.
- Collaborate with team members to address the community's health needs effectively.
- Provide after-hours access and emergency coverage as required.
- Engage in quality improvement and evaluation initiatives.
- Utilize an electronic medical record (EMR) system to document all relevant patient information, ensuring accessibility for all collaborating team members.
- Full-time or part-time options available.
- Eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS).
- Certification eligibility with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC).
- Membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA).
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
- Care of the Critically Ill Surgical Patient (CCrISP) training.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
- College of Family Physicians of Canada ER certification is considered an asset.
