Position Overview

Trinity Western University is seeking candidates for a prestigious Chair in New Testament Studies. The individual appointed to this role will be a distinguished educator, a respected scholar, and a devoted evangelical Christian, dedicated to fostering engagement among students, faculty, staff, and external partners to further the mission and vision of Trinity Western University. The ideal applicant will possess a profound understanding of the Bible's historical and cultural contexts, a deep commitment to the significance of Jesus as the foundation of faith, and the ability to enhance confidence in the authority and meaning of Scripture.

Key Responsibilities

Applicants must demonstrate exceptional teaching capabilities; exhibit intellectual rigor and spiritual maturity while nurturing a commitment to the authority of Scripture; effectively communicate the centrality of Jesus along with the historical, cultural, and theological contexts of the New Testament; exhibit a genuine commitment to viewing the Bible as a cohesive whole and recognize Scriptural exegesis as a vital mission of the church; strive to cultivate an academic environment that promotes students as master learners, while embracing innovative teaching methods across various formats (in-person, digital, and hybrid).

The successful candidate will engage in research within New Testament Studies and contribute significantly to the broader academic community through publications, presentations, and active involvement in scholarly organizations. Additionally, the Chair will collaborate with the Department of Biblical and Theological Studies to innovate curriculum and programs in alignment with strategic priorities; promote effective communication within the department; inspire faculty in their essential role of delivering an intellectually stimulating and faith-affirming Christian liberal arts education; and work closely with university leadership to enhance external confidence in Trinity Western University.

Qualifications

  • Strong commitment to Christ-centered higher education
  • Over five years of experience in Christian higher education
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven excellence in undergraduate teaching
  • Ability to foster collaboration
  • Dedication to the authority and relevance of Holy Scripture in contemporary life, discipleship, and witness
  • Capacity to demonstrate intellectual rigor, spiritual maturity, and confidence in the Bible as a unified text and the Church's role in its interpretation
  • Commitment to engaging with diverse students and colleagues.
