Position Overview

The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) exemplifies clinical proficiency and adheres to the practice standards set forth by the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), alongside the policies and procedures established by Southlake Regional Health Centre. The RPN collaborates effectively as part of the healthcare team, delivering direct patient care that aligns with the standards of the CNO. These responsibilities influence decision-making regarding care assignments and necessitate collaboration among healthcare providers. All nursing professionals are committed to continuous learning and professional development.

Key Responsibilities


• Deliver patient and family-centered care within the RPN scope of practice, utilizing the three-factor framework of the College of Nurses of Ontario.

• Adhere to established hospital policies and procedures, including emergency protocols.

• Ensure practice aligns with entry-to-practice competencies, standards, guidelines, and legislation.

• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and all members of the healthcare team.

• Collaborate with Registered Nurses (RNs) to provide care for patients with complex health conditions.

• Work in partnership with other interprofessional healthcare team members.

• Provide consultation and clinical support to colleagues as necessary.

• Contribute to the ongoing assessment and documentation of each patient's health status.

• Assist in developing and implementing the Plan of Care and evaluate its effectiveness.

• Support the orientation and training of new staff members and students.

• Serve as a role model to integrate safe, best practices into daily operations to ensure exemplary care.

• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Manager or delegate.

Required Skills & Qualifications


• A minimum of two years of current experience in the Operating Room is preferred.

• Ability to prioritize and organize tasks in response to patient needs.

• Capability to operate within the full scope of nursing practice as defined by the College of Nurses of Ontario.

• Commitment to ongoing education, professional growth, and quality improvement.

• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

• Proficient analytical and problem-solving abilities.

• Dedication to patient and family-centered care and teamwork.

• Individual leadership skills.

• Understanding and compliance with safety policies and procedures to foster a safe and inclusive environment.

• Familiarity with Electronic Documentation.

• Commitment to delivering exceptional experiences for patients, families, and team members in a dynamic healthcare setting.

Qualifications


• RPN diploma from an accredited nursing program.

• RPN Certificate of Registration in good standing from the College of Nurses of Ontario.

• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.

• Completion of the RPN Operating Room Course is necessary.
