The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) at Southlake Regional Health Centre embodies clinical excellence and adheres to the core competencies of the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) and the policies and procedures of our institution. As a valued member of our healthcare team, the RPN provides direct patient care, prioritizing patient and family-centered care and collaborating with colleagues to ensure seamless care delivery.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver patient-focused care within the RPN scope of practice, guided by the three-factor framework of the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Function in accordance with established hospital policies and procedures, including emergency codes.
- Ensure practice is consistent with entry-to-practice competencies, standards of practice, guidelines, and legislation.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Collaborate with Registered Nurses (RNs) to provide elements of care for patients with complex health issues.
- Contribute to the assessment and documentation of each patient's health status on an ongoing basis.
- Assist in the development and implementation of the Plan of Care and evaluate its effectiveness.
- Support the orientation and preceptorship of new staff members and students to the clinical units.
- Act as a role model and champion to integrate safe, best practices into daily activities, fostering the delivery of safe and exemplary care.
- RPN diploma from a recognized school of nursing.
- RPN Certificate of Registration, in good standing, from the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Current BLS certification required.
- RPN Operating Room Course required.
- Minimum two years recent, within the last five years, relevant OR experience preferred.
- Recent experience with IV therapy initiation and maintenance preferred.
- Patient Assessment course preferred.
- Experience in venipuncture or related course preferred.
- Competence in accessing, maintaining, and blood sampling from central venous access devices (CVADs) preferred.
- Ability to set priorities and organize work in response to patient needs.
- Ability to function to the full scope of nursing practice as per the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning, professional development, and continuous quality improvement.
- Demonstrated excellence in communication, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem assessment skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to patient and family-centered care and teamwork.
- Demonstrated individual leadership skills.
- Demonstrates understanding and compliance with patient and staff safety policies and procedures.
- Good working knowledge of Electronic Documentation.
- Commitment to providing an exceptional experience for patients, families, and healthcare team members.
