Job Summary

The University of Waterloo is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to fill the role of Co-op Student Experience Manager - Indigenous Relations. This position is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to enhance the co-op student experience and promote student success, with a focus on Indigenous students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Drive Co-op Student Success
    • Develop and implement metrics and service standards to measure co-op student success
    • Ensure the Co-operative Education department understands and integrates program and faculty co-op requirements
    • Develop consistent strategies and programs to support co-op student development and self-awareness
    • Develop and implement proactive processes to enhance co-op student access, wellness, and inclusion
    • Engage with stakeholders to identify and implement sustainable processes, policies, and practices
    • Develop and maintain relationships with student groups and organizations
    • Develop and improve co-op student feedback processes and use data to inform practice and processes
  • Facilitate Integration of Work and Academic Learning Experiences
    • Ensure Co-operative Education engagement with understanding and integration of co-op with student attainment of competencies and learning outcomes
    • Support academic program reviews and co-op feasibility studies
    • Support program enhancements as required
  • Lead and Manage Direct Reports
    • Provide information and context needed for employees to be effective
    • Hire, develop, and retain qualified staff
    • Set goals and expectations and help employees create clear paths to success
    • Develop effective work team dynamics
    • Ensure appropriate backup, support, and cross-training to manage capacity
    • Manage performance through formal and informal methods
    • Identify development opportunities and co-create development plans
  • Provide Overall Leadership
    • Champion the mission, vision, and guiding principles of Co-operative Education
    • Provide leadership, direction, and strategic planning for Co-operative Education
    • Monitor business practices to ensure effective internal and external representation
    • Lead the development of new capabilities required by new systems, tools, or processes
    • Develop productive, collaborative working relationships across Co-operative Education, external partners, and the University of Waterloo
    • Lead the identification, development, and implementation of projects to improve access to co-op, service quality, relationships, stakeholder satisfaction, timeliness, staff capability, and performance
    • Develop internal and external customer service standards and monitor satisfaction with service delivered
    Qualifications
    • University undergraduate degree
    • Minimum 5 years working with students in an advisory capacity
    • 3 years of experience working to advance student success via engagement, development, Work-Integrated Learning, or other initiatives within a post-secondary setting preferred
    • Experience managing and coaching student teams
    • Experience in research design and methodology
    • Demonstrated experience related to programs designed to support underrepresented student populations, non-traditional students, and students who are academically at risk
    • Strengths in relationship building, interpretation of data, process analysis, communication, presentations, collaborative teamwork, and knowledge of the Waterloo student experience
    • Familiarity with student development theory, student engagement practices, and pedagogy as it relates to Co-operative Education and Work-Integrated Learning
    • A record of and commitment to participating in ongoing learning and engagement in the areas of equity, diversity, inclusion, anti-racism, and accessibility
    • Knowledge of business analytics
    • Knowledge of program/project management
    • Advanced technical skills in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
    • Leverages a continuous improvement mindset with a demonstrated ability to work effectively with others, as both a team player and a team leader
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Demonstrated ability to manage and align stakeholders and their input on issues
    • Demonstrated ability to use data to understand and relate information to business needs and objectives
