As a Transit Vehicle Body Repair Specialist, you will engage in a comprehensive range of skilled tasks involving the repair, upkeep, and enhancement of bus bodies. Your responsibilities will encompass both extensive and minor repairs, thorough inspections, preventive maintenance, as well as modifications and overhauls of Transit vehicles as necessary.

Transit Vehicle Body Repair Specialists operate in diverse environments, including light repair facilities and heavy overhaul centers, and may be required to work various shifts. Additional responsibilities include data entry tasks utilizing M5 (Fleet Focus), ROB, and Google Workspace.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Repair body imperfections using suitable materials, ensuring surfaces are adequately prepared for painting through cleaning, sandblasting, grinding, and applying various coatings.
  • Conduct servicing and preventive maintenance checks on a range of Transit vehicles following established schedules and protocols.
  • Inspect, remove, replace, rebuild, and repair components such as seat frames, access panels, mirrors, glass, locks, and structural elements.
  • Perform surface preparation tasks including descaling and sandblasting.
  • Address collision damage by utilizing frame equipment to rectify bent frames and dents, replacing damaged panels and parts, and restoring structural integrity.
  • Apply primers and paints, manage striping and decals, and handle repairs on wheelchair ramps.
  • Execute the removal, repair, and replacement of damaged panels and structural components.
  • Carry out fiberglass and composite panel repairs and replacements.
  • Utilize various welding techniques, including MIG, AC/DC, arc, and oxy-acetylene welding.
Qualifications:
  • Certified Alberta Journeyperson in Auto Body Technician trade or a Certified 4th Year Auto Body Apprentice.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience at the Auto Body Technician level with a proven background in heavy truck and bus body repairs.
Essential Skills:
  • Comprehensive knowledge of standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment relevant to the Auto Body Technician field.
  • Awareness of occupational hazards and safety measures pertinent to the trade.
  • Capability to comprehend and execute both verbal and written instructions, as well as interpret technical drawings.
  • Ability to conduct basic assessments on damaged Transit vehicles.
  • Proficiency in maintaining accurate records.
  • Skillful use and maintenance of tools, equipment, and materials associated with the trade.
  • Competence in data entry within M5 and ROB software, along with proficiency in Google Workspace.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts as required.

Employment Conditions:
  • Successful candidates must meet respiratory fit requirements and comply with the City of Edmonton's respiratory protective equipment standards, including medical monitoring.
  • Adherence to the City of Edmonton's safety protocols for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is mandatory.
  • A valid Alberta Class 3 driver's license (or equivalent) with Air Brake endorsement is required, along with the ability to obtain and maintain a City Driver's permit.
Work Environment:
  • Shift work may be necessary.
