Video Tape Processing Specialist (Temporary/Contract)
Overview
The Video Tape Processing Specialist is responsible for capturing content from video tapes, ensuring it is normalized, modified, and prepared according to established specifications and workflows utilizing specific digital media software and hardware systems. As a member of the Encoding Team, you will receive guidance from the Manager of Media Technical Operations. This role demands a high level of precision in work order-based tasks, with a strong focus on technical details and content quality standards. Ideal candidates are those who exhibit a proactive, results-driven mindset and take ownership of their assignments in a dynamic, deadline-oriented environment. This is a temporary role expected to last approximately four months.
Key Responsibilities
Operate Video Tape Recorders (VTRs) and perform cleaning processes as necessary. Retrieve and manage the vaulting of tapes as required. Utilize video and audio encoding hardware and software effectively. Prepare, encode, package, and conduct quality control on deliverable content. Accurately document work assignments, their status, and outcomes in operational systems. Analyze and communicate information effectively to resolve any issues or concerns. Complete additional tasks as assigned.Qualifications
Familiarity with broadcast VTRs and digital capture hardware/software. Knowledge of tape formats such as BetaCam SP, DigiBeta, HDCam, and HDCam SR. Understanding of editing software including Final Cut Pro, AVID, Adobe Premiere Pro, and DaVinci Resolve. Experience with various broadcast/VOD specifications: NTSC, PAL, HD, interlaced & progressive scan. Ability to comprehend aspect ratios and frame rates used in HD and SD environments, including advanced frame rate conversions. Understanding of audio requirements for file-based deliveries: PCM, sample-rate, bit-depth. Experience with closed captioning and subtitle conforming. Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced team environment. Attention to detail, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills are essential. Ability to work independently once assignments are provided.
