About the Role

The Government of Alberta is seeking highly skilled and detail-oriented individuals to fill multiple full-time permanent positions as Land Analysts in the Petroleum and Natural Gas Tenure Operations Branch.

Key Responsibilities
  • Wells, Offsets, Units & Trespass: Analyze well production and drilling activity to ensure production aligns with legal rights, serving notices and levying penalties as necessary.
  • Continuation and Validation: Review continuation and validation applications from oil and gas companies, and renew or cancel petroleum and natural gas agreements accordingly.
  • Crown Authorizations: Review and approve or deny applications for Crown authorizations.
  • Agreement Administration: Process requests for agreement surrenders, collect overdue accounts, process encumbrances and transfers of various tenure agreements.
  • PNG Sales: Approve or deny requests for sale of undisposed Crown petroleum and natural gas rights, ensuring the appropriate restrictions and conditions are advertised and made part of the agreement.
  • Crown Land Data: Create and maintain client information for systems/applications on behalf of Alberta Energy and other ministries, and screen applicants to maintain account security when granting users access to department systems.
Requirements
  • Education: Minimum two-year diploma in Land Administration, Petroleum Land Administration, Legal Administration, or Business Administration.
  • Experience: Minimum one year progressively responsible related experience, including interpreting and applying legislation, client service/business administration in the Energy sector, and/or land and geological experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Excellent Communication Skills: Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills to efficiently work with Alberta's energy industry, Land Agents, Legal Services, Alberta Energy Regulator, and Auditor General staff.
  • Analytical Skills: Analyze options and implications to make informed decisions.
  • Sound Judgment: Apply sound judgment and creative approaches to solve problems and make decisions.
  • Technical Skills: Analyze and decipher information on maps, reports, and geological notations.
  • Proven Integrity: Maintain confidential information and manage financial transactions with high integrity.
  • Strong Knowledge of Excel: Provide statistics, analyze data, and create reports using Excel.
Working Environment

Full-time regular office hours are Monday to Friday, 8:15AM- 4:30PM, 36.25 hours weekly. The positions are based in Edmonton office located at Petroleum Plaza, North Tower.
