Lethbridge School Division - Student Support Worker - High School

We are pleased to announce an opening for a Student Support Worker position.

Lethbridge School Division seeks compassionate, understanding, and patient individuals to join a vibrant team. The Student Support Worker will deliver assistance and services to students facing emotional, behavioral, or other challenges that hinder their engagement in the educational setting. Employees in this role often serve in a consultative capacity to help students access necessary services or provide direct support based on students' needs or educators' requests. Work Schedule:
28.00 hours per week.

Student Support Worker staff enjoy a working calendar that allows for time off during select non-instructional days.

Key Responsibilities:

Responsibilities encompass identifying at-risk students, connecting them with suitable internal and external resources, organizing and leading support groups, and implementing strategies to foster student development.

Employees in this role maintain significant internal relationships within the school and School Division. Interactions vary and include providing information through various channels, resolving conflicts, and coordinating information services. Employees also engage in internal committees to share insights, receive guidance, and report on progress. External interactions extend to community service organizations, parents, and other support systems.

The ideal candidate will offer support in areas such as social skills development, conflict resolution and mediation, self-esteem enhancement, assertiveness training, communication skills, study techniques, goal setting, problem-solving, and stress management. The student support team member will assist with orientation and transition processes. The candidate will mediate conflicts among students, provide conflict resolution support, and guide students through the resolution process.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Post-secondary diploma in Child and Youth Care or a related discipline; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working with high school students.

Employment Conditions:

To ensure a safe and secure working and learning environment, new applicants to Lethbridge School Division who are offered employment must provide:

  • A police information check, including a Vulnerable Sector Check from Police Services or an RCMP detachment with no charges or convictions.
  • A satisfactory Intervention Record Check from South Region Alberta Child and Family Services.
  • Proof of photo identification, which may include a valid driver's license, provincial identification card issued by a licensed government registry office, valid passport, or Nexus card. If unable to provide one, a new card must be obtained, and proof of application must be submitted within three days of hire.
  • Documentation of a valid Social Insurance Number in the employee's legal name. If valid Social Insurance documentation in the current legal name cannot be provided, the successful candidate will be required to obtain a new one within three days of hire.

The hourly wage ranges from $28.42, depending on experience.
