Job Summary:
Lethbridge School Division is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Educational Support Specialist to join our team. As an Educational Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in supporting students with exceptionalities, including those with behavioral challenges and complex physical disabilities. Your primary responsibility will be to work collaboratively with teachers, students, and other support staff to create a safe and inclusive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist students with exceptionalities in academic and behavioral tasks, adapting to their individual needs and abilities.
- Implement Positive Behavior Support Plans, working closely with students, teachers, and other support staff to promote positive behaviors and reduce challenging behaviors.
- Provide personal care and support to students, including lifting, toileting, and other physical needs.
- Participate in community activities with students, such as swimming and skating, to promote socialization and physical activity.
- Collaborate with teachers and other support staff to develop and implement individualized programs and strategies to support student success.
- Monitor student progress, reporting to teachers and other support staff as needed.
- Participate in ongoing professional learning and development to enhance skills and knowledge in supporting students with exceptionalities.
Requirements:
- Grade 12 or General Educational Development (GED) diploma.
- Post-secondary certificate or diploma in a related field, such as Educational Assistant, Early Childhood Education, or Child and Youth Care.
- Experience working with students with exceptionalities, including those with behavioral challenges and complex physical disabilities.
- Training and/or experience in Positive Behavior Support Plans, sign language, Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC), and/or Hanen (Learning Language and Loving It/ABC & Beyond) is an asset.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with students, teachers, and other support staff.
- Ability to adapt to dynamic learning environments and prioritize tasks to meet the needs of students and the school community.
