Role Overview
This position entails overseeing the operations of the inorganic laboratory, ensuring excellence in analysis, production efficiency, and team management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage staff schedules to guarantee optimal coverage while maintaining fiscal responsibility, including handling absenteeism and vacation requests.
- Collaborate with management to conduct interviews, onboard new hires, and address performance-related issues.
- Oversee human resource functions within the department, including recruitment, performance evaluations, and employee relations.
- Provide necessary training for team members as required.
- Conduct annual performance assessments in collaboration with management.
- Maintain an adequate supply inventory to support laboratory operations efficiently.
- Ensure adherence to maintenance schedules and preventative measures.
- Prepare and submit production reports and statistical data to the Laboratory Manager.
- Uphold ALS quality management system standards within the department.
- Perform thorough data reviews and analyses.
- Ensure compliance with methodologies and accreditation standards.
- Participate in internal and external audits, addressing any findings promptly.
- Facilitate regular team discussions to address safety, quality, and operational updates.
- Continuously assess and improve laboratory procedures and processes.
- Collaborate with other departments to resolve client inquiries and production challenges.
- Follow established procedures to ensure analytical quality.
- Adhere to safety regulations and ALS health and safety policies.
- Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.
Candidate Profile:
- Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
- Ability to manage escalations and urgent issues effectively.
- Proven judgment, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
- Commitment to continuous improvement and process optimization.
- Capacity to convey information clearly and engagingly.
- Strong safety mindset and team-oriented approach.
- Excellent customer service and organizational skills.
Required Qualifications:
- Degree in Chemistry or a related discipline.
- At least 6 years of experience with analytical chemistry instrumentation.
- Familiarity with ISO/IEC 17025 or similar laboratory standards.
- Minimum 3 years of leadership experience in a laboratory environment.
- Proficient in MS Excel and MS Word.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Capacity to stand for extended periods.
- Capability to perform general office tasks, including sedentary work.
- Manual dexterity for repetitive tasks.
