Role Overview

This position entails overseeing the operations of the inorganic laboratory, ensuring excellence in analysis, production efficiency, and team management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage staff schedules to guarantee optimal coverage while maintaining fiscal responsibility, including handling absenteeism and vacation requests.
  • Collaborate with management to conduct interviews, onboard new hires, and address performance-related issues.
  • Oversee human resource functions within the department, including recruitment, performance evaluations, and employee relations.
  • Provide necessary training for team members as required.
  • Conduct annual performance assessments in collaboration with management.
  • Maintain an adequate supply inventory to support laboratory operations efficiently.
  • Ensure adherence to maintenance schedules and preventative measures.
  • Prepare and submit production reports and statistical data to the Laboratory Manager.
  • Uphold ALS quality management system standards within the department.
  • Perform thorough data reviews and analyses.
  • Ensure compliance with methodologies and accreditation standards.
  • Participate in internal and external audits, addressing any findings promptly.
  • Facilitate regular team discussions to address safety, quality, and operational updates.
  • Continuously assess and improve laboratory procedures and processes.
  • Collaborate with other departments to resolve client inquiries and production challenges.
  • Follow established procedures to ensure analytical quality.
  • Adhere to safety regulations and ALS health and safety policies.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.

Candidate Profile:

  • Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to manage escalations and urgent issues effectively.
  • Proven judgment, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and process optimization.
  • Capacity to convey information clearly and engagingly.
  • Strong safety mindset and team-oriented approach.
  • Excellent customer service and organizational skills.

Required Qualifications:

  • Degree in Chemistry or a related discipline.
  • At least 6 years of experience with analytical chemistry instrumentation.
  • Familiarity with ISO/IEC 17025 or similar laboratory standards.
  • Minimum 3 years of leadership experience in a laboratory environment.
  • Proficient in MS Excel and MS Word.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Capacity to stand for extended periods.
  • Capability to perform general office tasks, including sedentary work.
  • Manual dexterity for repetitive tasks.
