About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Laboratory Supervisor to join our Inorganics team at ALS. As a key member of our management team, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of inorganic laboratory analysis, including production, staff management, quality control, and turnaround time.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee staff scheduling to ensure adequate coverage while maintaining a fiscally responsible approach.
  • Conduct interviews, onboard new employees, and recommend/discipline actions as necessary.
  • Effectively manage human resources within the department, including recruiting, performance management, employee relations, attendance, and promotion.
  • Coordinate and provide training for the team as needed.
  • Complete annual performance reviews for employees.
  • Maintain an adequate inventory of supplies and consumables to support operations while ensuring efficiency.
  • Ensure all maintenance and preventative maintenance schedules are followed.
  • Prepare and maintain production reports and statistics.
  • Maintain ALS quality management system requirements for the department.
  • Perform detailed data review, interpretation, and processing.
  • Ensure methodologies and accreditation requirements are met and documented.
  • Participate in internal and external audits for the department and ensure timely resolution of any findings.
  • Conduct regular crew talks to discuss safety, quality, process changes, management issues, and corporate communications.
  • Proactively review procedures and processes and provide input on their quality and reliability.
  • Liaise with other departments to respond to client inquiries, address production issues, and resolve client service concerns.
  • Use correct methods in accordance with established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality.
  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures.
About You:

Required Qualifications:
  • Degree in Chemistry or related field.
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in operating and maintaining analytical chemistry instrumentation for a variety of methods.
  • Experience working with ISO/IEC 17025 or similar International Standardization systems for laboratory operation.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience leading a team in a laboratory setting.
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Excel and MS Word.
Physical Demands:
  • Able to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Able to stand for a full shift.
  • Able to sit at a desk and perform general office work, including periodic sedentary responsibilities.
  • Possess manual dexterity to perform repetitive tasks.
  • Please note that ALS operates 24/7 and will require day, afternoon, and graveyard shift work, including weekends.
