Position Overview

The Cloud Network Specialist plays a pivotal role in the planning, construction, and management of both Cloud-based and on-premise data center infrastructures. This position is essential for bridging the divide between corporate networks and Cloud environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Continuously assess Cloud applications, architectures, and industry best practices.
  • Design, implement, and maintain Azure networking solutions, focusing on hybrid connectivity, routing, security, and private access to Azure services.
  • Utilize the Azure Portal and various methods, including PowerShell, Terraform, Azure CLI, and Azure templates, to deploy networking solutions.
  • Collaborate with solutions architects, application developers, cloud administrators, cybersecurity professionals, and DevOps engineers to deliver comprehensive Azure solutions.
  • Monitor network performance, availability, and security, while auditing existing network designs.
  • Implement and uphold security best practices within the Cloud environment.
  • Deploy and manage Cloud, WAN, LAN, Wireless, Voice, and Video solutions, including servers, routers, switches, gateways, and related hardware.
  • Communicate network maintenance, operational status, and downtime to users and management in accordance with established change management processes.
  • Develop metrics and monitoring tools to support SRE (Support) and Operations functions.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in Azure administration, particularly with hybrid connections and network security.
  • Over 7 years of experience in implementing and managing enterprise networking and data center environments, including switches, load balancers, and firewalls.
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant industry experience in deploying, managing, and automating on-premises networking.
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical or engineering discipline or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience with Kubernetes network environments is advantageous.
  • Additional experience troubleshooting other Cloud network environments such as AWS and GCP is a plus.

Specialized Skills and Knowledge

  • Expertise in building and maintaining large-scale, highly available, and fault-tolerant network infrastructures.
  • Experience in designing highly redundant core networks.
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP, routing protocols, and firewall management.
  • Hands-on experience in Linux administration.
  • Proficiency in scripting for infrastructure development (e.g., Bash, Python, Terraform).
  • In-depth knowledge of network appliances (both hardware and virtual), including Cisco, Fortinet, and/or Palo Alto.
  • Familiarity with SRE concepts is considered beneficial.

This role significantly influences the standardization and utilization of on-premise network infrastructure within Telesat's data centers.
