Position OverviewWe are seeking an Associate to join the Growth Equity team, which operates within the Private Equity division. The mission of the Growth Equity team is to deliver robust returns and insights into the innovation landscape by making strategic fund commitments and aligned direct investments alongside premier venture and growth managers across North America and Europe. The team comprises 13 seasoned professionals and continues to expand.
In this capacity, you will engage in comprehensive company and fund analysis, foster relationships with leading firms and funds, and monitor existing and prospective investments. You will gain significant exposure to innovative companies and top-tier investors within the venture and growth-stage sectors.
As an ideal candidate, you are recognized for your collaborative spirit and proactive approach, demonstrating critical and innovative thinking. You have begun to establish a track record in investment and asset management, with experience in venture or growth stages and/or technology being advantageous. You are capable of independently leading workstreams and taking ownership of results. Your communication skills enable you to engage in investment discussions and build trust with key partners and stakeholders while supporting the execution of investment and asset management initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
In this role, you will work closely with the team to:
- Conduct research, analysis, and execution of fund and direct investments, including reviewing diligence materials, engaging with management teams and fund partners, performing financial modeling and scenario analysis, and preparing investment memos.
- Assist in managing existing fund relationships alongside senior managers to monitor performance and identify direct investment opportunities.
- Oversee existing direct investments and support asset management initiatives.
- Participate in strategic initiatives to achieve the goals of the Growth Equity group, the Private Equity division, and the broader fund.
- Collaborate with various teams and departments across the organization regularly.
- Preferred candidates will have 3 - 5 years of experience in investment banking, consulting, or early/growth stage investments. Previous fund investing experience is advantageous.
- A genuine enthusiasm for disruptive technology investing, relationship building with fund partners, and addressing complex business challenges.
- Strong research, financial modeling, and analytical capabilities.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively within a team while promoting an inclusive culture.
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and workstreams simultaneously.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Experience in conducting due diligence under tight deadlines.
- A willingness to work in the Toronto office and travel as needed.
