Position OverviewWe are seeking an Associate in Toronto to join the Growth Equity team within the Private Equity department. The mission of the Growth Equity team is to deliver strong returns and insights into the innovation ecosystem by making fund commitments and aligned direct investments alongside top venture and growth managers across North America and Europe. Currently, the team comprises 13 experienced professionals with offices in Toronto and San Francisco and is poised for further growth.
In this capacity, you will engage in company and fund diligence and execution, foster relationships with leading companies and funds, and monitor existing and prospective investments. You will gain substantial exposure to disruptive companies and premier investors within the venture and growth-stage ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities:
In this role, you will collaborate closely with the team to:
- Conduct research, analysis, and execution of fund and direct investments. This encompasses reviewing diligence materials, engaging with management teams and fund partners, financial modeling, scenario analysis, investment memo execution, and facilitating other internal and external diligence streams.
- Assist in managing existing fund relationships alongside senior relationship managers to monitor fund performance and identify direct investment opportunities.
- Oversee existing direct investments and support asset management initiatives.
- Participate in various initiatives to execute strategy goals for the Growth Equity group, the Private Equity department, and the broader fund.
- Collaborate regularly with other teams and departments across the organization.
- Preference for candidates with 3 - 5 years of experience in investment banking, consulting, and/or early/growth stage investment. Prior fund investing experience is advantageous.
- A genuine enthusiasm for disruptive technology investing, relationship building with fund partners, and solving complex business challenges.
- Exceptional research, financial modeling, and analytical abilities.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills; a commitment to fostering an inclusive team environment.
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and workstreams effectively.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Experience conducting due diligence under tight timelines when necessary.
- A willingness to work in the Toronto office four days a week and travel as required.
