Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Medical Health Officer to join our team at Fraser Health. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for providing strategic oversight and management of public health programs and services, as well as leading statutory programs for Fraser Health and the Province.

Key Responsibilities
  • Statutory and Legislative Requirements
    • Responsible for carrying out the legislated requirements of the Public Health Act, Community Care Facility and Assisted Living Act, Drinking Water Protection Act, School Act, and any other relevant legislation.
  • Management
    • Provides strong clinical leadership and works in partnership with Clinical Directors to deliver public health regional programs and services.
  • Community Medicine/Public Health Preventive Medicine Consultant
    • Provides evidence-based opinions and works collaboratively with staff, physicians, municipal councils, school boards, and other government ministries on public health issues.
  • Population Health
    • Responsible for monitoring and assessing the health status of the community, making recommendations for strategies to address health issues, and providing leadership on implementing immediate actions to protect public health.
  • Community Health Planning, Evaluation, Research and Program Development
    • Assists in the evaluation of the effectiveness of health programs and the planning and evaluation of programs designed to address emerging health issues.
  • Advocacy
    • Responsible for advocating for actions that will improve the health of populations and communicating directly with the public and elected officials on health issues.
Requirements
  • A Medical Degree and eligibility for a full license to practice medicine in British Columbia.
  • A FRCP(C) in Public Health and Preventive Medicine/Community Medicine is required.
  • Experience with health program administration and management, including serving on medical advisory committees and program management responsibility.
  • Proven ability to exercise independent judgment, action, and discretion in the carrying out of responsibilities.
  • Current BC Driver's License and access to a personal vehicle for business-related purposes.
