This unit centralizes investment attraction support and coordination functions within the Government of Alberta. Utilizing a 'pathfinding services' approach, it serves as a single point of contact for qualified investors outside Alberta, offering essential coordination and support. Reporting to the Manager of Investment Account Supports, as an Investment Attraction Specialist, your role will involve centralizing investment attraction support and collaborating with external stakeholders to gather intelligence and provide information that facilitates investor inquiries aimed at boosting investment in Alberta. Key responsibilities include: 1. Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Develop and maintain networks outside the province, alongside the Manager, to build relationships with stakeholders that provide intelligence and information to support investor inquiries.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the Ministry to ensure timely information sharing.
  • Foster collaborative relationships between Invest Alberta Corporation (IAC) and other public agencies involved in investment relations.
  • Work closely with designated partners and stakeholders to effectively deliver investment programs.
  • Provide ongoing support to existing investors, addressing issues and identifying opportunities to enhance investment retention.
  • Deliver integrated analysis and advice to the Manager and external investors, offering options and solutions to proactively address emerging challenges.

2. Policy / Program Support:

  • Contribute analysis and content to strengthen the Unit's collaborative efforts aimed at increasing investment in Alberta.
  • Offer guidance based on research, comparisons, and cost-benefit analyses regarding investment opportunities.
  • Advise IGF intake partners and applicants on the IGF program.
  • Prepare briefing notes and recommendations for the Minister concerning IGF applications.
  • Manage specific projects within the Unit to enhance knowledge of investment attraction and formulate integrated policy recommendations.
  • Identify emerging risks and opportunities that could influence Alberta's investment climate.
  • Assist in developing investment packages and materials to support potential development or expansion opportunities.
  • Generate reports on investment clients and initiatives as needed, utilizing the Branch Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system and other tools.
  • Monitor business development trends and key markets to identify potential investors.
  • Support targeted portfolios to align with the priorities of the Alberta Recovery Plan and develop tailored attraction strategies.
  • Apply specialized knowledge to address complex investment and retention challenges.

3. Information Requests / Action Requests / Briefings:

  • Conduct and synthesize background research to assist in issues management.
  • Lead comprehensive research for action requests, gathering accurate background information.
  • Draft thorough responses to action requests and briefing notes for stakeholders in a timely manner.
  • Present materials and documents related to investment attraction effectively.
Qualifications A university degree in Business, Economics, Economic Development, or a related field, complemented by four years of progressively responsible experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Equivalency: Relevant education or experience will be considered on a one-to-one basis.

The Investment Attraction Specialist should possess the following knowledge and experience:

  • Proven ability to prepare options analysis, reports, briefings, and presentations.
  • Strong understanding of economic development concepts.
  • Experience collaborating with diverse teams on sector strategies, market analysis, or policy development.
  • Excellent communication and consultation skills for engaging with multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to cultivate and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with policy and program development frameworks.

The following are considered assets :

  • Experience working collaboratively across government departments, businesses, and community organizations.
  • Background in policy assessment or stakeholder engagement.

This is a permanent position with a standard work schedule of Monday to Friday.
