Platform Security Engineer for Financial Technologies

Position Overview: This role presents a unique opportunity to become a vital part of ION as a Platform Security Engineer. In this capacity, you will play a crucial role in ensuring secure and compliant platform security across various technologies utilized in our business offerings. A deep understanding of potential attack vectors within the technology stack, including the tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) employed by adversaries to exploit weaknesses, is essential. You will serve as a trusted advisor throughout the platform, infrastructure, and development lifecycle, leveraging insights on emerging threats, business objectives, and system architecture to enhance the security posture of our platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

  • As a member of the Platform Security Team within the ION Markets CISO function, your responsibilities will include:
  • Monitoring and detecting security incidents and emerging threats related to the platform and its dependencies;
  • Acting as the liaison between the Cyber Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT) and Infrastructure/Platform teams during security incident management;
  • Conducting threat modeling and proactive hunting to uncover vulnerabilities in platform/infrastructure design and offering control recommendations to mitigate identified risks;
  • Participating in architecture and design reviews to ensure alignment with security strategies and industry best practices;
  • Keeping abreast of industry trends, best practices, and regulatory standards that may influence product implementations;
  • Assisting in the engineering of control solutions when existing options are inadequate;
  • Providing security expertise during incident management and problem resolution;
  • Creating threat intelligence briefings and other documentation to disseminate information across the organization;
  • Responding to ad-hoc inquiries for platform security-related guidance;
  • This position may necessitate occasional overnight, weekend, and on-call duties.

Required Skills, Qualifications, and Experience:

  • Knowledge of:
  • Working within the financial services sector or other highly regulated environments in a technical capacity;
  • Information security management, governance, and compliance principles, including relevant laws, rules, and regulations such as NIST, ISO, NIS, DORA, and GDPR;
  • Information technology systems and processes, network infrastructure, data architecture, and protocols;
  • Cybersecurity and cloud security frameworks, architecture, design, operations, controls, and service orchestration;
  • Skills in:
  • Security Tooling: Proficiency in widely used security tools, including SIEMs, vulnerability scanners, firewalls, and EDR products;
  • Scripting: Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, BASH, or PowerShell;
  • Security Incident Management: Capability to assist in the detection, response, and recovery from escalated security incidents while managing backlog and lessons learned;
  • Risk Assessment: Expertise in conducting security risk assessments and delivering comprehensive post-event analyses;
  • Security Expertise: Providing specialized security knowledge during incident and problem management;
  • Communication: Strong communication skills to articulate complex security issues to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to:
  • Effectively convey technical issues to diverse audiences, both in written and verbal formats;
  • Handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion;
  • Understand and adhere to broad and complex instructions;
  • Comprehend technical language and communicate, analyze, and write in a clear and objective manner;
  • Work independently, prioritize multiple tasks, and adapt to changing needs;
  • Maintain composure under high-pressure or challenging situations.
