Job Summary

The Recreation Technician role at Hawkesbury General Hospital & District General Hospital is a dynamic position that focuses on enhancing the quality of life for patients in our Transitional Care Unit. As a key member of the multidisciplinary rehabilitation team, the Recreation Technician will provide recreational activities and leisure experiences to promote physical, emotional, and cognitive well-being.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct leisure and recreation assessments to identify individual patient needs and goals
  • Develop and implement recreation plans to promote physical, emotional, and cognitive well-being
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to provide patient-centered care
  • Design and lead recreational activities tailored to patients' needs and abilities
  • Provide education and counseling on leisure and recreation techniques
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of recreation plans and make adjustments as needed

Requirements

  • College degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies or related field
  • Registered member of Therapeutic Recreation Ontario
  • 1 year of experience working with the elderly
  • Relevant healthcare experience
  • Valid certificate in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Basic computer skills
  • Effective communication skills in English and French
  • Creativity in designing and implementing recreational activities
  • Understanding of therapeutic techniques and ability to adapt activities for patients with varying abilities
