Position Overview:
As a vital member of Legal Aid Ontario, you will play a crucial role in enhancing access to justice for our clients. This position is more than just a job; it is an opportunity to positively impact the lives of individuals who require legal assistance.

Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver exceptional legal services efficiently and effectively.
- Advocate courageously for clients facing challenges such as mental health issues, addiction, poverty, and homelessness.
- Represent clients in various legal proceedings, including bail hearings, guilty pleas, and remands, both in-person and remotely.
- Provide legal counsel to clients in custody and offer guidance on legal aid processes.
- Assess client needs and facilitate referrals to relevant community services, ensuring early identification of vulnerable individuals.
- Collaborate with stakeholders, including detention center personnel, law enforcement, Crown Attorneys, and community organizations.
- Maintain current knowledge of criminal law and practices.
- Manage case files promptly, adhering to organizational requirements, including the use of technology and software.
- Collect data and record services provided in a timely manner.
- Adapt to changes in the work environment and communicate potential risks effectively.
- Ensure punctual attendance for court appearances and perform additional administrative tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:
- Licensed lawyer in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
- Willingness to travel as required.
- Comprehensive understanding of the Criminal Code of Canada, Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and relevant legal procedures.
- Proven experience in criminal law with strong advocacy skills.
- Experience representing clients with complex legal matters, including bail hearings and guilty pleas.
- Excellent negotiation and advocacy abilities.
- Familiarity with Legal Aid Ontario's policies and procedures.
- Proficient in Microsoft 365 applications and other relevant software.
- Commitment to social justice and equity.
- Proficiency in French or other languages is an asset.
