About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Technologist I to join our team in the Core Lab at Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health. As a Medical Laboratory Technologist I, you will play a critical role in providing laboratory services for diagnostic purposes that support clinical care, as well as academic and research needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform analytical analysis and effectively communicate and collaborate with other departments to ensure effective, efficient, and high-quality care.
  • Manage laboratory services with the patient's and family needs as a priority.
  • Work within your scope of certified technical knowledge and experience, exhibiting leadership, sound professional judgment, and initiative, and maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Perform tests (both manual and automated) in clinical areas such as Chemistry, Specialized Chemistry, Hematology, and/or Transfusion Medicine.
  • Consistently demonstrate the ability to work in stressful situations, sometimes with little or no supervision, and the ability to make decisions exercising critical thinking skills.
  • Work within established protocols for testing, maintenance, quality control, and calibration, and frequently interact with computerized information systems.
  • Collect patient samples.
Requirements
  • Graduate from an approved program in Medical Laboratory Technology.
  • Registered with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) required.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure with the Nova Scotia College of Medical Laboratory Technologists (NSCMLT) required.
  • A sound knowledge of at least six (6) of the functions listed above required.
  • Well-developed organizational skills and communication skills required.
  • The ability to work in a team environment in addition to independent work is essential.
  • Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to ongoing training or professional development.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset; French preferred.
