Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Leader of Rail Systems, the Lead Engineer of Signal Systems will oversee the planning, organization, and management of maintenance and repair activities for the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Signaling System. This role encompasses engineering oversight, budget management, and ensuring the reliability and safety of the systems. Key responsibilities include:

  • Recruiting, coaching, mentoring, and managing team performance.
  • Overseeing the engineering, construction, and maintenance of the LRT Signal System to ensure safe and reliable operations.
  • Planning, scheduling, and supervising inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs of LRT Signal assets.
  • Managing a multi-million-dollar budget, optimizing resource allocation, and controlling expenses.
  • Analyzing system performance through logs and KPI data to prioritize maintenance and prepare reports for senior management.
  • Developing and implementing safety and reliability initiatives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Overseeing contracts and managing procurement for maintenance and critical spare parts, in coordination with Finance and Supply departments.
  • Creating and implementing guidelines, specifications, and asset management plans; leading root cause analysis and ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Providing engineering oversight to maintain professional engineering practices.
  • Serving as a Discipline Champion, offering technical expertise, reviewing engineering submissions, and ensuring alignment with industry standards.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant professional engineering experience post-receipt of P. Eng. Designation, with current licensure as a Professional Engineer.
  • Experience in LRT signaling or rail systems engineering, including project and budget management, with a strong understanding of LRT Signal Systems and industry best practices.
  • A valid Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent), with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to obtain an operator's permit.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities with experience in team management, project oversight, and budget control.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in root cause analysis and data interpretation.
  • Effective communication skills, particularly in presenting technical information to senior management.
  • Ability to collaborate with internal and external partners, manage procurement, and lead cross-functional teams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to implement innovative solutions.
