Senior Legal Counsel, Capital Markets Risk & Disputes

We are searching for a seasoned legal professional to strengthen our capital markets risk management program. Reporting directly to the Chief Compliance Officer, this role will involve providing expert legal counsel on risk issues, leading dispute resolution efforts, guiding marketing strategies, and collaborating with various teams across Wealthsimple to enhance our overall risk management processes. We seek an individual who is a strategic thinker, proactive in identifying emerging risks, and passionate about leveraging technology to elevate our risk function.

Role Responsibilities:
  • Provide comprehensive legal advice to senior leaders on critical business decisions.
  • Spearhead responses to disputes and investigations, ensuring effective resolution strategies.
  • Offer expert guidance on marketing initiatives, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.
  • Handle complex legal matters in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate emerging business risks, contributing to a robust risk management framework.
  • Contribute innovative ideas for process improvement, focusing on quality and scalability.
  • Implement technology solutions to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of our risk management processes.
  • Conduct thorough investigations, gathering evidence and analyzing findings.
Skills:
  • Juris Doctor degree with a minimum of 5-8 years of experience in dispute resolution.
  • In-depth expertise in regulatory investigations and compliance matters.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of conveying complex legal concepts clearly and concisely.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, ensuring efficient task completion and adherence to deadlines.
Nice to Haves:
  • Fluency in French.
  • Expertise in class action litigation.
  • Interest in the application of generative AI in legal practice.
