Job Summary:
The Instructional Designer will provide pedagogical and instructional support to all instructors, students, and staff at York University. This role will administer services to effectively integrate instructional design into teaching, learning, and administrative environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide subject matter expertise in planning and direction of effective, learner-centred online and blended courses.
- Participate in design, development, delivery, and assessments of course material.
- Support the Continuing Professional Education (CPE) area and the York University English Language Institute (YUELI).
- Develop programs in technology fields and highly technical areas such as accounting.
- Provide instructional design advisory services in an academic environment.
- Conduct needs assessments to recommend effective learning solutions.
- Develop effective working relationships across all levels of the organization.
- Present and train staff on various topics.
- Manage projects using formal project management methodologies and tools.
- Meet and exceed project expectations.
Requirements:
- Three years of recent and relevant instructional design experience and learning technology support experience.
- Designing and developing learning solutions in various delivery formats.
- Experience developing programs in technology fields and highly technical areas.
- Experience providing instructional design advisory services in an academic environment.
- Needs assessment experience to recommend effective learning solutions.
- Ability to develop effective working relationships across all levels of the organization.
- Strong presentation and training skills.
- Project management experience and a commitment to meeting and exceeding project expectations.
- Proven results-orientation.
- Commitment to excellent and high-quality work.
- Ability to work accurately under tight and multiple deadlines and priorities.
- Excellent written communication skills.
- Excellent analytical and evaluative skills.
- Staff training experience considered an asset.
Preferred Skills:
- Advanced LMS experience.
- Moodle experience would be an asset.
- Proven experience using collaboration tools, ePortfolios, blogs, Turnitin, personal response systems, and web conferencing software.
- Experience using Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and screen recording tools.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of AODA is required.
- Experience using various adaptive learning software platforms such as OLI, Aleks, Lumina Datamatics will be an asset.
- Experience using design and development tools such as Captivate, Articulate preferred.
