Key Responsibilities
As a Graduate Engineer, you will support the Green Fleet Strategy team, focusing on The City of Calgary's mobile assets. This role offers the chance to directly influence The City's initiatives aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, you will assist with various Fleet engineering tasks, including:

  • Providing technical assistance and gathering feedback from end users and the fueling team for alternative fuel and technology pilot initiatives.
  • Creating parameters and tools to facilitate the scaling of fleet electrification.
  • Developing technical documentation to aid customer adoption of innovative technologies.
  • Assisting the Fleet and Inventory's Acquisitions team in optimizing planning activities.
  • Reviewing existing technical standards and formulating new standards under the mentorship of the Senior Fleet Engineer.
  • Conducting cost-benefit analyses on current practices, technologies, and products utilized by The City.
  • Performing failure analysis on unit categories to identify common failure causes and recommending improvements to minimize unit downtime.
  • Implementing recommendations and updating the Green Fleet Team, Fleet and Inventory Management Team, and key partners on project progress and action plans.
  • Collaborating with Acquisition Specialists to prepare specifications, assess vehicle and equipment operational needs, ensure compliance with standards, and manage the procurement and commissioning of heavy-duty vehicles and equipment.
  • Preparing engineering drawings, plans, diagrams, and layouts for various departments.

Qualifications
To be considered for this position, candidates should possess:

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering and registration as an Engineer-In-Training (EIT) with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) by the start of employment.
  • A minor in Energy & Environment is preferred.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerits, or a Graduated Driver's License (GDL) with no more than 4 demerits, and no pending charges or suspensions.
  • Field experience is an asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), Autodesk Inventor, and SolidWorks is advantageous.
  • Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a results-oriented mindset are essential for success in this role.
  • Strategic and analytical thinking abilities, along with effective project and time management skills.
  • The capacity to work independently and collaboratively while engaging with internal and external stakeholders.
