Position Overview
This role involves providing expert legal counsel as a Barrister & Solicitor specializing in labour and employment law within the Government of Alberta. The successful candidate will engage in a variety of legal functions aimed at supporting government operations.

Key Responsibilities

The selected individual will be responsible for:

  • Delivering comprehensive legal advice on diverse labour and employment issues, including disciplinary actions, terminations, collective agreements, and human rights matters.
  • Collaborating with various stakeholders to formulate and implement relevant legislation.
  • Developing proactive strategies to address intricate workplace challenges.
  • Drafting precise and articulate legal opinions and documentation.
  • Advising on policies, procedures, and organizational programs.
  • Providing guidance and support to external legal representatives.
  • Conducting thorough research and analysis of legal developments affecting the organization.
  • Representing the organization before adjudicators, including arbitrators and regulatory bodies.

This position offers an opportunity to showcase analytical and writing skills while delivering strategic legal services to the Government of Alberta. Strong problem-solving abilities and a background in labour and employment law are essential for success in this role.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) or Juris Doctor (JD) degree. For degrees obtained outside Canada, accreditation from the National Committee on Accreditation (NCA) is necessary. Active membership or immediate eligibility for full membership with the Law Society of Alberta is required.

Preferred Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in labour and employment law.
  • Proven ability to interpret and advise on legislative matters.
  • Experience in providing strategic legal guidance.

Classification and Salary:
Compensation will be determined based on qualifications and relevant experience.

Work Schedule: Standard working hours are Monday to Friday, totaling 36.25 hours per week.
