Therapeutic Foster Care - Caregiver Role

Program Overview:
Our Therapeutic Foster Care initiative emphasizes a culturally sensitive approach, prioritizing the experiences of Indigenous children. This program is rooted in the belief that cultural understanding is essential for effective family-based care.

Importance of Home Fire Keepers:
The concept of Home Fire Keepers symbolizes the nurturing of community ties for individuals who have faced disconnection from their heritage. It represents a central point of hope and connection in daily life.

Role Responsibilities:
Home Fire Keepers will provide essential in-home support to youth, focusing on emotional, spiritual, physical, and cognitive growth. The caregiver's role is pivotal in facilitating positive reconnections with community and culture.

Key Expectations:
Home Fire Keepers are integral members of a collaborative team, which includes youth specialists and cultural advisors. They are:

  • Valued collaborators in service planning and delivery, fostering open communication.
  • Committed to personal and professional development through ongoing training and support.
  • Equipped with resources and crisis intervention strategies, available around the clock.
  • Supported by cultural mentors and community members, ensuring culturally appropriate responses.
  • Central figures in the comprehensive care network surrounding each child or youth.
  • Attuned caregivers with a strong understanding of trauma-informed practices and positive parenting techniques.

Qualifications:

  • Availability to provide care within the home environment.
  • Previous experience in youth care and managing challenging behaviors is essential.
  • Participation in extensive training prior to engaging with clients.

Compensation Details:

  • Caregivers will receive tax-exempt daily compensation per child.
  • Training participation will also be compensated.
  • Compensation will increase based on tenure and experience.
