Provincial Mental Health Counselor

Opportunity Overview:
The successful candidate will have the flexibility to operate from various locations, including options for remote work after an initial orientation period. Reporting to the Manager of the Virtual Opioid Dependency Program and collaborating with the Clinical Supervisor, the Provincial Mental Health Therapist will deliver harm reduction-oriented mental health and addiction services to clients throughout the province.
In this role, you will engage in an interdisciplinary approach to provide culturally sensitive assessments, treatments, crisis interventions, educational initiatives, and referral services tailored for clients struggling with opioid dependency and their families. Your practice will be grounded in a strength-based approach, employing motivational interviewing and solution-focused therapy techniques.
The ideal candidate is proactive and assertive, equipped with robust skills in mental health resolution, critical thinking, and decision-making. Experience in facilitating group sessions, building community networks, and offering educational resources for staff is essential.
Position Responsibilities:
As a Provincial Mental Health Therapist, you will utilize a range of therapeutic modalities, including individual, family, and group therapies, to assist individuals facing significant mental health challenges. You will work both autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, applying evidence-based practices in crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, referral, case management, and treatment.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work (with clinical specialization), Occupational Therapy (with mental health assessment and psychotherapy training), or Nursing/Psychiatric Nursing (with relevant training and experience in mental health assessment and psychotherapy). Registration with the appropriate Alberta regulatory college is required or must be eligible for registration.
