Job Summary

The Purchaser is responsible for providing purchasing support for Aecon Industrial to achieve its procurement objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Purchase materials, supplies, tools, equipment, and services of a routine nature, within established limits and quality, quantity, and price guidelines; items are generally readily available.
  • Assess company requirements and determine specifications for items to be purchased.
  • Source/research materials for price and quality.
  • Provide pricing for estimates and assisting with closing estimates.
  • Coordinate delivery and expediting of goods.
  • Invite tenders; consult with suppliers and reviewing quotations.
  • Select vendors, place orders, and maintain records.
  • Establish and maintain contact with suppliers.
  • Meet with manufacturing representatives to keep current on new products and their uses.
  • Determine and negotiate contract terms and conditions, recommending contract awards.
  • Source vendors and subcontractors, determine interest, and ensure they meet or exceed the minimum EHS, quality, and financial requirements of Aecon and the Client.
  • Conduct all aspects of the competitive bidding process including assembling bidders lists and packages, issuing, receiving, opening, evaluating, recommending, awarding, and documenting.
  • Gather and negotiate pricing and exceptions to the standard terms and conditions.
Requirements
  • Completion of post-secondary education.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience within a purchasing department.
  • At least two (2) years of experience within an industrial or commercial construction procurement department.
  • Completion of the P.M.A.C. Purchasing Certificate program or enrolment in the SCMP Accreditation Program and/or trade certification related to position specialization desired.
  • Understanding of purchasing principles, techniques, practices, and ethics.
  • An understanding of the tools of procurement.
  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and consumable materials.
  • Proven organizational skills and ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks within a fast-paced work environment.
  • Service orientation and ability to work effectively with a team environment.
  • Ability to build positive working relationships with professionals within industry and internal clients.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Solid research skills and commitment to continually learn about new products.
  • Attention to detail, mathematical, and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint).
  • SAP experience an asset.
