POSITION SUMMARY

The Speech Language Pathologist operates under the direct oversight of the Jordan's Principle Coordinator and the KO Health Director, ensuring effective service delivery.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conducts comprehensive evaluations of speech and language capabilities in children from infancy to 18 years.
  • Designs and implements tailored interventions to meet the specific needs of each child, which includes:
    • Administering diagnostic assessments and analyzing results.
    • Communicating assessment findings to families and other relevant parties as necessary.
    • Modifying programs as required.
    • Making informed decisions regarding the initiation, duration, or cessation of therapies.
    • Coordinating services for children with diverse needs.
    • Delivering direct therapeutic interventions, either individually or in group settings.
    • Recommending personalized speech and language programs for children.
    • Providing guidance, education, and support to parents, guardians, and educators on relevant speech and language issues.
    • Overseeing the activities of support staff who assist in delivering services to children and families, including developing and monitoring speech/language objectives.
    • Planning and offering information, education, and consultation regarding preschool speech and language matters to community entities, such as childcare facilities and public forums.
    • Collaborating with relevant agencies and professionals to enhance community capacity in supporting the speech and language development of preschool and school-aged children.
    • Maintaining accurate records and fulfilling administrative duties, including tracking individual workload metrics in line with KO policies.
  • Engages with communities to assess and mitigate risks associated with programs, ensuring the safety of clients, staff, and volunteers.

RISK MANAGEMENT

Works collaboratively with communities to identify and evaluate potential risks to programs, assisting in the implementation of strategies to mitigate these risks.

  • Engages in supervision and accepts feedback from the Jordan's Principle Coordinator and Health Director.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • May undertake other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in Speech Language Pathology.
  • Registered and in good standing with the College of Audiologists and Speech Language Pathologists of Ontario.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to the cultural practices of the Keewaytinook Okimakanak community.
  • Experience working within First Nation communities.
  • Proven leadership skills, accountability, and strong work ethic.
  • Experience navigating a political landscape.
  • Proficient in data collection and reporting.
  • Understanding of the intricate structure of health and social services for children with developmental challenges.
  • Strong decision-making and leadership capabilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to present information effectively.
  • Current valid Criminal Record Check.
  • A valid driver's license.
