About the Role

The Environmental Student is a key member of the Environment and Regulatory team at the Cold Lake Operations site. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and approvals, and supporting the implementation of the company's environmental strategy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Environmental performance reporting with accuracy and timeliness as required by regulations and license approvals
  • Development and implementation of environmental standards and managing systems for the site
  • Working with geospatial data
  • Maintaining site documentation of overview and detailed regulatory compliance directories
  • Managing environmental protection and regulatory compliance efforts at the site
  • Routine environmental field sampling and inspections
  • Providing ongoing technical support to the operating unit on environmental issues
  • Supporting the development, implementation and surveillance of compliance programs including plans, procedures and training
  • Leading and completing specific environmental management project(s) or improvement opportunities which could involve developing new management systems, guidelines, or tools
Requirements
  • Completion of at least 2nd year or higher in Engineering with an Environmental / Civil major or concentration, Environmental Sciences or Environmental Management degree
  • Currently enrolled in a university program and returning to full-time studies after the work term
  • Most recent unofficial transcript(s) must be submitted with your application
  • Demonstrated leadership and strong academic skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Available for a work term beginning in January 2025
  • A valid driver's license and a safe driving record are required for this position
  • Previous industry or environmental experience is considered beneficial, but not essential
  • ArcGIS skills
  • Ability to adapt to challenging projects, working in a high pace and often changing work environment
  • Proficiency with computer-based data management programs, spreadsheet and presentation applications, visio
  • Self-motivation with strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Critical thinking skills and ability to problem solve
  • Transportation to the worksite provided from Cold Lake or Bonnyville
