Key Responsibilities
Perform nutritional evaluations and screenings by assessing biochemical, anthropometric, dietary factors, and subjective global assessments; develop and execute care strategies, overseeing and managing the nutritional well-being of patients. Engage in patient care discussions and clinics by analyzing and reporting on the nutritional care strategies. Deliver extensive nutrition counseling for patients and their families, including training on specialized formulas and food preparation; conduct workshops and seminars, and create written guidelines. Facilitate individual and group educational sessions, providing comprehensive nutrition, lifestyle, and self-care guidance and support to patients, parents, and caregivers. Supervise and modify nutrition care strategies, diets, and formulas as necessary. In response to laboratory data, and in collaboration with the treatment team, assess and adjust nutrition care strategies, diets, and formulas. Consult with patients, families, and healthcare professionals regarding the patient's progress with the nutrition care strategy. Maintain and update patient records according to program guidelines, documenting recommendations or modifications. Maintain accurate records of activities performed, including documentation of the nutrition care strategy on patient charts, workload statistics, formula requisitions, menus, and patient care databases. Stay updated with the latest diabetes knowledge, reviewing dietary guidelines and standards of care to ensure appropriate food and nutrition for patients. Analyze recent clinical experiences and research, review literature, consult with community experts, evaluate clinical practices and referral systems, and develop or revise standards or guidelines to create written resources for other healthcare professionals, including dietitians, physicians, nurses, and social workers.Qualifications
Graduation from a dietetics program accredited by the College of Dietitians of British Columbia. Current certification as a Canadian Diabetes Educator (CDE). Minimum of three (3) years of relevant clinical experience, including one year in pediatric nutrition and feeding practices in an acute care environment or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Full registration with the College of Dietitians of British Columbia.You also possess the ability to:
Communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms. Execute the responsibilities of the position. Operate relevant equipment. Educate and counsel effectively. Organize and prioritize tasks efficiently. Commit to understanding legislative obligations and provincial commitments as outlined in foundational documents. Uphold the shared responsibility of fostering meaningful reconciliation in Canada. Ideally, have knowledge of the social, economic, political, and historical contexts of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples and familiarity with addressing Indigenous-specific anti-racism and cultural safety.What We Offer
