About the Role
The Linguistic Services Director at Sun Life is a key leader who oversees the translation and francization of operations and major projects. This role plays a crucial part in supporting the company's strategies and ensuring the quality and conformity of services rendered.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement the department's strategic direction to meet the company's translation and francization needs.
- Set objectives for Linguistic Services to support corporate strategies and ensure alignment with business goals.
- Manage the department's service budget effectively, ensuring costs are fairly distributed among business units based on work performed.
- Build and maintain relationships with external suppliers, providing training and ensuring the quality of services rendered.
- Stay up-to-date with technological tools and implement improvements to work methods as needed.
- Lead and supervise a team of six managers and two revisers, providing guidance and support to ensure their success.
- Evaluate the performance of direct reports and oversee the entire evaluation process to ensure fairness for all Linguistic Services staff.
- Drive continuous improvement in work methods and service delivery, fostering a culture of clear and inclusive language.
- Provide strategic advice to partners on major projects, ensuring alignment with company goals.
- Establish a culture that respects the brand's guidelines and promotes a positive work environment.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience managing a translation department and in budgetary and strategic planning.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in supervising and training staff.
- Bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for frequent interactions with English and French-speaking colleagues or internal partners across Canada and worldwide.
- Knowledge of the translation operational environment and the evolution of the language industry.
- Good writing skills with proven experience in editing and proofreading French texts.
- University degree in translation; program/course in administration (an asset).
- Knowledge of translation tools and workflow management systems.
- Curiosity about new technologies to increase efficiency and productivity.
- Ability to build strong relationships with various stakeholders.
- Ability to solve difficult or complex problems with diplomacy and tact.
- Prioritizes customer relations.
- Ability to be a positive and resilient leader.
