Agricultural Operations Supervisor

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Agricultural Operations Supervisor to join our team at McCain Foods. As a key member of our seed farm operations, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily activities of our farm workers and harvesting laborers, ensuring the highest quality seed production and crop yields.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and supervise the day-to-day work activities of farm workers and harvesting laborers.
  • Oversee growing, crop maintenance, harvesting, and other crop-related operations.
  • Inspect crops and fields to determine maturity, yield, and work requirements.
  • Evaluate weather and soil conditions to ensure optimal crop growth.
  • Assist the Farm Manager with agronomic decisions and work with customer growers to ensure seed quality meets their needs.
  • Ensure all health and safety procedures are followed by workers and visitors.
  • Maintain quality control, production, and safety records.
  • Direct and assist in the repair and maintenance of farm equipment.
  • Oversee the sorting and handling of produce to ensure the highest quality.
  • Monitor and manage potato storage, including cleaning and repairs.
  • Perform other duties as instructed by management.

Requirements:

  • Post-secondary education in Agriculture preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years' experience in agriculture, with potato experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of and ability to develop new agronomic techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and manage an efficient team.
  • Ability to delegate effectively and timely.
  • Experience using and operating farm machinery related to planting and harvesting potato crops.
  • Proven problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and extended hours during planting and harvesting seasons.
  • Sprayer Application License required or willingness to become licensed upon hire.
  • Class 1 or Class 3 driver's license considered an asset.
  • Experience operating farm equipment considered an asset.
  • Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs.

Work Environment:

The work environment will include working outside in all kinds of weather conditions. Some manual work may be required, and you will be working around moving equipment in sometimes difficult conditions.
